Dragonwilds Gear Progression — Metal, Leather and Cloth Tiers by Power Level
Quick answer
Gear runs in four tiers mapped to power levels: Iron (PL 4), Steel (PL 5), Mithril (PL 6) and Adamant (PL 7) — with a mirror leather line for ranged and cloth line for magic. Power level comes entirely from armour, so each tier jump is the progression gate.

The tier ladder
Every gear line repeats the same shape per tier: metal for melee, leather for ranged, cloth for magic. Ore tiers up by region — copper and tin in the Fractured Plains, silver in the Bloodblight Swamp, mithril in Dowdun Reach and adamantite in the Umbral Sands.
| Power Level | Metal (melee) | Leather (ranged) | Cloth (magic) | Ore region |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | Iron | Dire Wolf Leather | Padded Cloth | Stormtouched Highlands / Fellhollow |
| 5 | Steel | Draconic Leather | Fine Cloth | Blast Furnace tier (3 coal per bar) |
| 6 | Mithril | Cursed Leather | Mystic Cloth | Dowdun Reach |
| 7 | Adamant | Scorch Leather | Infinity Cloth | Umbral Sands |
How a tier jump works
The iron chain is the template: mine ore, smelt bars at a Furnace (3 Iron Ore → 1 Iron Bar), then craft at the Blacksmith’s Bench — the Iron Sword takes 8 Iron Bars, 4 Hard Leather, 1 Wool Thread and 4 Vault Shards. Steel onward smelts at a Blast Furnace with 3 coal per bar. The same tier bars, leather and cloth feed the Mystic Forge’s ascension cores.
Where the bosses sit on the ladder
The world boss ladder is calibrated to these tiers: Velgar at Power Level 4 expects iron, Imaru at 5 expects steel-tier, the Black Knight Titan at 6 mithril, and Fuzan at 7 adamant.
FAQ
- What raises power level in Dragonwilds?
- Only your armour. Skill levels don’t raise power level — gear progression and combat training are separate tracks.
- What is the best armour in Dragonwilds?
- Adamant-tier (Power Level 7) sits at the top of the current ladder, with Masterwork ascensions handled at the Mystic Forge for endgame players.
