Dragonwilds Base Building Guide — Build Order, Blueprints and Stability

Quick answer

Claim a bed first (respawn point), then Campfire → Furnace → Blacksmith's Bench — the bronze age in three builds. Use Ghost Mode (F) to lay free blueprints before committing materials, keep buildings close to the ground for stability, and finish with tannery and spinning wheel so leather and cloth never bottleneck.

The build order that matters

Bed first — death without one returns you to the Wise Old Man's temple. Then the bronze age in three builds: Campfire for cooking and heat, Furnace for your first bars, Blacksmith's Bench for weapons and tools. Tannery and Spinning Wheel come next so the leather and cloth halves of every recipe stay open.

From there the base grows around your loop: sawmill and stonecutter for construction materials, blast furnace for steel-tier smelting (3 coal per bar), brewing cauldron for potions, cooking range for tiered food. Every station is a buildable piece placed through the Construction menu (B).

Blueprints, repair and stability

Build mode has three states. Place pieces directly, or switch to Ghost Mode (F): blueprints cost nothing to place and you fill them with materials later — the intended way to plan a base ahead of your stockpile. Repair Mode (T) fixes damaged pieces and reclaims resources from deleted ones.

Stability is positional: buildings are more stable the closer they sit to the ground, and the placement preview turns red when a piece can't be placed. Work top-down when roofing — walls and supports first, roof pieces last.

Fine-tuning the preview: mouse wheel rotates, CTRL+wheel raises and lowers, ALT+wheel moves it backwards and forwards.

The full construction catalogue

Dragonwilds has 459 buildable pieces across eleven categories — furniture and storage (142) and other structures (152) are the deepest benches for base builders, with beams and supports (23) carrying the structural work. Every piece's page carries its exact cost and a raw-material calculator, so planning a storage hall is the same workflow as planning a sword.

FAQ

What should I build first in Dragonwilds?
A bed (respawn point), then Campfire, Furnace and Blacksmith's Bench. That trio covers the entire bronze-to-iron stretch; tannery and spinning wheel come after so recipes never starve.
Do blueprints cost materials in Dragonwilds?
No — Ghost Mode (F) blueprints are free to place and act as planning tools; you add the required materials later. Repair Mode (T) fixes damage and refunds resources from deleted pieces.
Why can't I place a building piece?
Stability: buildings need support and are more stable the closer they are to the ground. The preview turns red when placement is invalid — build walls and supports before roof pieces.
